Hints for Preparing Record Books
- If your project area is not listed on the county website, it should
be labeled as a Design Your Own
- Be sure to add captions for photo-points are taken off for this.
- Photo pages must have photos, not printer copies.
- Do not place a score sheet in your record book. You receive a copy
of this so that you may see how books are graded.
- Be sure to follow report form for all cover pages. The pages in your
record book must be in the order listed on the instructions. Do not
omit a page even if you have nothing to list.
- Be sure to list activities' locations.
Ex: Attended a workshop. (Where? What subject?)
Attended 4-H workshop on Poultry. (Where?)
- Be sure to word sentences in your own words! When helping a younger
member use their words. Judges are aware of the age group they are
judging.
- Spelling counts in older members' record books.
- You may add sample pages of your work at the end of your record
book. Be sure to include any curriculum workbook. Examples of things you
may include are leaf collections and drawings.
- Be more specific with stats. Members should be keeping records that
is why it is called a record book! Examples: I baked bread 27 times this
year. I fed the rabbit 176 times. I gathered eggs 260 days or times.
- Other activities should have location listed such as community,
church or 4-H.
List your attendance to your clubs.
- Be sure to use the report form the county provides. If you retype
forms on your computer do not omit any information.
