Pickens County 4-H Volunteer Meeting
Pickens County Extension Office
January 18, 2005

Present: Deb Edson, Susan Dodgens, Samiel Martin, Amy Sowell, and Bob Spalding

Meeting called to order by Deb Edson. Minutes were approved. Report on clubs that had paid insurance was given. Total amount in checking now is $1936.75.

Old business Clubs all need to pay insurance and fill out enrollment cards NOW.

Deb to check with club leaders who have not completed this.

State events are now listed with dates on web site. Deb brought up election of officers. Bob nominated Deb for chairman. Susan recommended we keep the same slate of officers with Bob as advisor. The vote carried .

Bob volunteered to see if he could find a home economist to give a food demonstration for the county 4-hers.

The record book committee decided to judge record books on Feb.9th.The group then voted to have leader meeting at 2:00 pm on Feb.8 th at the extension office.

October 19, 2004


Present : Deb Edson, Samiel Martin, and Amy Sowell

Meeting called to order by Deb Edson

Minutes were approved.

There is an opportunity for 2 community service projects :Adopt a Highway (Holly Bush Rd.) This is done 4 times a year. There is a butterfly garden in Clemson at a nursing center that needs to be weeded and mulched.

Dates for next year were discussed. Teen Weekend is March 19th and 20th 2005 and State Congress is July10-13.

There are three 4-hers going to National Congress in Dec. (Stephanie Johnson, David Edson and Sarah Jarrall.

All clubs need to get new enrollment cards filled out and turn in to Extension office with insurance money.

Leaders need to check the Pickens web site and download Information about record books and give to 4-hers or have members download them. Record books are due to volunteer leaders on Jan.24, 2005 and to Extension office on Feb.1, 2005.

The next meeting will be January 18, 2005.

Present: Susan Dodgens, Samiel Martin, Amy Sowell, Bob Spalding and Lee Ann White

Meeting called to order by Susan Dodgens

    Minutes were approved. Treasurer report $1925.37 in checking account.

    Old Business:

         Fair: There was a lot of positive feed back about the new entry tags. Everyone seemed happy with the judges and comments they made this year. Pick up need to be earlier in the day next year .Bob would like to appoint a committee to update the fair forms, entries etc. Group agreed with this. Bob is going to have a meeting with his committee and report back at the next leader meeting.

        Bicycle Rodeo and 4-H fall activity on hold for now.

 

   New Business:

         Calendar for year was discussed. The same calendar as last year will be followed .

         Susan Dodgens will do the chicken BBQ again this year.

         Bob will co-ordinate awards night with Susan and Samiel serving on the committee.

          Same committee will be in charge of record books.

          The group unanimously agreed that the fashion show was a big hit at awards night and voted to ask Sarah to do one again .Several options were given for the fashion review. It could be held at a different time. The group would give trophies in each division if clothing judged by workshop and modeling. The review could be done as it was last year. We want Sarah to have time to decide what she would like to do and the 4-Hers to have time to make a garment to model.

          Susan reminded us that we elect officers in November.

          The possibility of a county food demonstration contest was discussed. Everyone thought it would be a good idea. Lee Ann said she would help with one but needed to know what to do.

          Next meeting will be Oct. 19 at 7:00 pm.

Pickens County 4-H Volunteer Meeting

August 17, 2004

Present: Susan Dodgens, Deb Edson, Sarah Heichel, Samiel Martin, Bob Spalding and  Lee Ann White.

  Meeting called to order by Deb Edson. Minutes were approved.

  • Progressive Farmers Safety Day Information given out to leaders.
  • Bob had information on Adult Shooting Sports Workshop if anyone interested.
  • Deb said a new 4-H club has been formed in Dacusville.
  • Bob talked about the fair which is the next event coming up.
  • Pick up is from 11 am to 1 pm on Monday Sept. 13th.
  • He asked for suggestions for judges and for volunteers to help with the fair. He asked that we let him purchase doors for photography exhibit .He had priced them at about $60.00.

 

  • Samiel made motion that we let Bob purchase what ever he needs for the fair, seconded by Susan. Motion carried.
     

  • The entry tag was discussed. Bob was to check with Bobby Morris who did the older tags years ago and get about 500 to 1000 printed.
     

  • Rules for the judges are not very specific except in project area

  • It was agreed that the volunteers at the registration table would have the final say in any category discussions.
     

  • Meeting was adjourned.
     

  • Next meeting to be at extension office on Tuesday Sept 21st @ 7:00 pm.

Pickens County 4-H Volunteer Meeting

July 20, 2004

Present: Susan Dodgens, Sarah Heichel, Samiel Martin, and Amy Sowell

Meeting was called to order buy Susan Dodgens. Minutes were read and approved. Treasurer reported that $545.00 had been contributed to 4-H fund. 4-H in general was discussed. We need to get 4-Hers more interested in county wide activities

No report on the electric workshop

Woodworking workshop will be at a later date

No information on the beach bash which Deb Edson has agreed to coordinate.

Upper State fair was discussed. There are many jobs that have been taken care of by the agent in the past.

Susan will check with Deb Edson about the beach bash and Bob Spalding about the Fair.

May 18, 2003

Present Susan Dodgens, Deb Edson, Samiel Martin, Amy Sowell, Bob Spalding,  Leeann White

Meeting was called to order by Deb Edson. Minutes were approved.

Treasurer reported that $900.00 had been contributed to 4-H fund. Deb had $150.00 tonight that her teens had collected. Also there has been $ 5.00 added to the 4-H Foundation.

Susan recommended that we ask Karen to send check once a month to the treasurer  for monies that had been received.

Leeann reported that her club has been sewing.

Susan gave a report on her new club and the activities that they were planning.

Deb gave a report on her club’s visit to Pickens County Council Meeting . They gave a talk on what 4-H is and some of the projects involved now.

Bob gave out the paper for bicycle rodeo and went over it. Tentatively it will be held at Dacusville Middle School on June 15th from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon

The group decided to continue to meet on the third Tues at 7:00 pm. No other volunteers responded to the notice concerning meetings.

Electric Day will be held on July 10th from 10am to 12 noon @ the extension office.

Sign up will be held before the event.

Susan had talked with Mr. Boyles about the wood working shop. He wants the children to be at least 11 yrs old to use tools .The day will be set up later.

There is a state food workshop and contest. Details can be found on the 4-H county website.

Soliciting for funds is to be done only for a county event. Clubs may have money making projects that are service related or pay dues to finance their projects.

Next meeting will be held on June 15th after the bicycle rodeo @ the school since this the day for our meeting. Volunteers helping with the rodeo should bring a bag lunch.

Pickens County 4-H Volunteer Meeting

April 20, 2004

 Present: Susan Dodgens, Samiel Martin, Amy Sowell, Bob Spalding and Leeann White

Bob Spalding called the meeting to order. The minutes were approved. . Everyone felt that the Awards Program went well. The fashion revue added a lot to the program.

Treasurer reported that we had spent $343.94 on trophies fashion revue medals and Bertha Stone awards. There was one more outstanding bill.

Better communications were discussed. The group felt this could be improved.

All communications received should be passed on to the person who is chairman of an event

  • We also decided that we need a notebook to record no. of ribbons used for events and supplies so that we will know when to reorder..
  • Susan reported on the chicken barbecue contest and the workshop.
  • Four children will be participating at the state contest on May 8, 2004.
  • Susan had got the supplies for the event donated.
  • Susan Dodgens was elected vice president.
  • Bob is still planning the bicycle rodeo on June 15th. Place to be announced.
  • Electric workday is July 10th. Leeann White is chairman of this.
  • Fund raising was discussed. Teens can go to service organizations and ask for help to go to state congress. A list needs to be kept of money received and people contacted.

The time of the meeting was discussed. It was decided to meet at 7:00 pm May 18th.(third Tues). A survey will be taken by email or letter to see which day of the months best for the majority.

February 17, 2004

Present: Pat Edmonds, Deb Edson, Samiel Martin, Amy Sowell and Bob Spalding

Deb called the meeting to order Minutes were approved.

There was some discussion on records. This year 29 books were turned in and judged.

Awards night was planned March 16th @ 7:00 pm Pickens County Extension Office meeting room.

Each club is responsible for bringing 3 dozen cookies.

There will be a short speech by a former 4-Her. The Nimble Thimble Club will do a fashion revue to include any other 4-H members that have done some sewing and want to participate.  Please let Sarah Heichel know if any of your members are interested.

The awards were discussed and recommendations from club leaders were discussed.

Pickens County 4-H Volunteer Leader Meeting

January 20,2004

Present: Susan Dodgens, Deb Edson, Samiel Martin, Amy Sowell, Bob Spalding, and Leeann White  

Deb Edson called the meeting to order .Minutes were approved. Treasurer report given.

On 1/8/03  $ 1,307.08 Expenses for 2003 $951.23.Contributions $550.06 leaving a balance on 1/8/04 of $905.23.

A bill for ribbons of  $39.59was left by Glenna. Bob made a motion that we pay it. Motion was seconded by Susan .Motion carried.

 Insurance bill for $215.00 this year will be paid by volunteer committee.

Beginning next year Insurance will be paid by individual clubs and club leaders. Club leaders will be responsible for collecting money and turning it in to extension office prior to January1,2005. Fees are $1.00 per 4-Her and $1.00 per leader except for Horse Clubs. Fee is $ 2.00 per 4-Her and $ 4.00 per leader.

Activities were discussed

Susan Dodgens volunteered to be chairman of chicken barbecue.

Samiel Martin volunteered to be chairman for achievement night.

Bob Spalding volunteered  to be responsible for bike rodeo.

Leeann White volunteered to be chairman for electric workshop

Bob also volunteered to do a county wide web site.

Budget for 2004 was discussed and approved. This will be adjusted during the year according to how much money is raised.

Fund raising was discussed. We need to raise some funds to cover the programs for the year. All money has to go through the extension office and then a check will be written to program committee. Form letters have been typed up and can be picked up at the extension office.

Call Susan Dodgens and let her know who you are planning to call on so that we will not have any duplication of calls on businesses.

It was agreed to ask Adonnya Greene if she wanted to do the petting zoo as a county fund raiser at the Azalea Festival

Members suggested having a fashion revue at awards program for any county 4-hers to model what they have made. It was a unanimous decision to ask Sarah Heichel if she would coordinate this for us.
